OBRA Theatre Co was founded on a belief in theatre as storytelling and the power of language and the imagination to transform both performer and audience. The company work in a Laboratory Theatre model, creating through intensive research and investigation. The foundation of OBRA’s training is the interchange between individual creative work and an ensemble. The company continue to develop their practice through exchanges with other practitioners and artists.

Each of OBRA’s four founder members, Kate Hannah Papi, Unai Lopez de Armentia, Hannah Whelan and Oliviero Papi has developed a particular area of practical research in  performance craft which together serves as a foundation for their collective practice.

OBRA premiered Transfixed in 2009, and Gaudete – Part 1 – The Abduction and Duplication of Lumb in 2011. They are currently developing the second part of the Gaudete trilogy, inspired by the versicle novel of the same name by Ted Hughes.

The company members lead workshops for professionals, students and youth at their base in France, across Europe and further afield.
